Mods are unofficial add-ons and modifications that are usually created by other players. Any mods designed to work with Minecraft: Java Edition should also work for Minecraft on Mac. In order to download Minecraft mods, you first need to download and install the Minecraft Forge API program.

Install Forge

  1. Go to JourneyMap Files on CurseForge, find the version of JourneyMap you have, and read the Changelog for the exact version of Forge you need. Usually it is the Recommended build of Forge.
  2. On the Minecraft Forge Downloads page, click the version of Minecraft you are using, and locate the 'Recommended' installer. (or the installer for the version specified in the Changelog.)
  3. Download the 'Installer' link of the release to get the Forge installer jar.
  4. If your Minecraft Launcher is currently running, you'll need to shut it down now. If you don't, the new Profile won't appear until you restart the Launcher.
  5. After it has downloaded, double-click the installer jar and a small dialog window will appear:
  6. Select the Install Client option and press OK. It will install a new 'Forge' profile in your Minecraft Launcher.

Configure the Forge profile

  1. After the Forge profile is installed, run the Minecraft Launcher.
  2. In the Minecraft Launcher's Profile drop-down menu, select the new 'Forge' profile. Click the Edit button:
  3. Optional: You can edit the Profile Name if desired. Ex: 'Forge 1.7.10'
  4. If you have enough RAM, it is highly recommended that you allocate 1GB or more. Enable the checkbox next to JVM Arguments and use the default '-Xmx1G'. If you need to allocate less or more than 1GB, and aren't comfortable with changing the value, see Tutorial: Giving Minecraft more RAM for details.
  1. Locate the Game Directory location on your computer. This is where Minecraft is installed. On Windows, this is usually %appdata%/.minecraft . On OSX, this is usually ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft.

Install JourneyMap

  1. If it doesn't exist yet, create a 'mods' folder in the Minecraft directory (see above).
  2. Put the JourneyMap jar file into the mods directory.
  3. Use the Forge profile in your Minecraft Launcher and JourneyMap will be loaded for you. Happy mapping!
  4. If everything is installed correctly, you will see a 'JourneyMap available' chat message in Minecraft. (If you don't see this, chances are good you don't have the correct version of Forge in your Minecraft launcher profile. See How to update your Minecraft Profile.

Try it Out!

  1. Start Minecraft and connect to a single player or multiplayer world.
  2. If everything is installed correctly, you will see a 'JourneyMap available' chat message in Minecraft.
  3. Try out the in-game map by pressing 'J' or click the URL shown in the 'JourneyMap available' chat message. (By default this will be http://localhost:8080.

How to install minecraft forge :

Go to https://wminecraft.net/ in a web browser, search “Minecraft Forge 1.16.3” . This will take you to the download page of the latest recommended version of Minecraft Forge.

It is recommended that you install the version of Minecraft Forge that corresponds to the version of Minecraft you are playing. For example, if you are playing Minecraft 1.13, you should download Minecraft Forge 1.13. You can find the link to the different versions of Minecraft Forge in the list that says “Minecraft Version” to the left.

The latest version of Minecraft Forge is 1.16.2, but this version of Minecraft Forge has had the least amount of testing. The latest recommended version of Minecraft Forge is 1.16.3.

Some mods require a specific version of Minecraft Forge. If the mod you want to install requires you to install a specific version of Minecraft Forge, click Show all versions to see all versions of Minecraft Forge.

Double-click the Forge file. It’s a file called “forge-[version number]-installer.jar”. You can open downloaded files in your web browser or in your Downloads folder.

  • If you receive a pop-up message telling you to install Java, go to https://www.java.com/en/download/ in your browser, click Free Java Download, click Agree and Start Free Download, and then install Java once it finishes downloading.
  • Make sure the “Install client” radio option is checked. If it isn’t, click the box or circle next to “Install client” before proceeding.
  • Click OK, It’s in the bottom-right corner of the page. Doing so will install the client files and folders for Minecraft Forge.
    You can change the destination folder by clicking … and then selecting a new folder.
  • Click OK when prompted. This will complete the installation process.

Mac OS and Windows 10:

Click the Image titled Macapple icon. The Apple menu icon is in the top-left corner of the screen.
If you don’t receive an error message, skip ahead to the “Make sure the ‘Install client’ box is checked” step.
Click System Preferences. It’s near the top of the drop-down menu.
Click Security & Privacy. This is a house-shaped icon in the top row of the “System Preferences” menu.
Click the lock icon. It’s in the bottom-left corner of the window.
You’ll have to enter your administrator password before continuing.

Click Open Anyway. It’s under the General tab in Security & Privacy. This will open the Minecraft Forge installer window.
If this option is not available, open the Finder and navigate to your Downloads folder. Double-click the forge installer JAR file.
Click Open. This confirms that you want to open the file.

  • If prompted to install Java, first click More Info… on the pop-up window, click Download below Java, click the Java .dmg file, double-click the Java .pkg folder, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Ensure the install folder for Minecraft is correct. It’s listed at the bottom of the Forge installer window. By default, your Minecraft install folder location should be “/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/minecraft/”. If this is not correct, click … next to the file location and navigate to your Minecraft install location. Then click Choose.
  • Click OK. It’s in the bottom-right corner of the page. Doing so will install the client files and folders for Minecraft Forge.
  • You can change the destination folder by clicking … above OK and then selecting a new folder.
  • Click OK when prompted. This will complete the installation process.

You’ve installed Java, you’ve run Minecraft, and now it’s time to start with the setup of Forge. Navigate to its https://wminecraft.net/ website: https://wminecraft.net/minecraft-forge/, and you’ll be greeted with several options for installation. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • From the Recommended Download section, select the Installer option.
  • If you are running any sort of firewall, you may have to bypass its security setting. Rest assured — your computer is safe!
  • Once the download is finished, you should have a new file on your computer with a filename similar to “forge-1.16.3-34.0.0-installer”
  • Now that Java is installed on your computer, you should be able to click on the file and run it.
  • This will open up the Mod System Installer, which will walk you through the process of setting up Forge on your system.
  • Take note of the file path listed on the installer — you’ll need this later. Then, select Install Client and press OK.
  • Once done, proceed through the prompts, and the Forge Installer should close.

Install Minecraft Forge On Linux:

  • Navigate to the downloaded file. By default, your downloaded files can be found in your “Downloads” folder. Open the File Manager and navigate to the Downloads folder.
  • Right-click the Minecraft Forge install file and click Properties. This opens the properties menu for the file. By default, the forge install file is “forge-[version number]-installer.jar.
  • Click Permissions. It’s at the top of the Properties window.
  • Check the box that says “Allow executing file as program”. This makes the file executable. Without this, Linux will not allow you to run the file.
  • To make the file executable in the Terminal, navigate to the folder location and type “sudo chmod +x forge-[version number]-installer.jar” and press Enter.
  • Double-click the Forge install file. This run the file and open the Installer. By default, the forge install file is “forge-[version number]-installer.jar.
  • Make sure the “Install client” radio option is checked. If it isn’t, click the box or circle next to “Install client” before proceeding.
  • Ensure the Minecraft install folder is correct. In Linux, the Minecraft install folder should be “/home/[username]/.minecraft”. If this is not correct, click … next to the folder location at the bottom of the Forge install window. Navigate to the correct file location and click Ok.
  • Click OK button. This will install Forge for Minecraft.
  • Click OK. After installation is complete you’ll see a window with this message.
